Introducing PinballX

PinballX is a free digital pinball front end designed for digital pinball cabinets developed by the author of GameEx. It is compatible with HyperPin media and databases. Credit to Bill E for creating the first digital pinball front end publicy available HyperPin.

Please be aware this is a new release and there may be some items to address which we are happy to do.

Improved compatibility with Linux and Mac under WINE
New Mac OS X version available that is quite an improvement. Note: This is still experimnetal.
Running under Linux and OS X can now be done without registration required.
Fixes to GameEx login which was not working properly since we moved to the new database format.
Fixes display not reninitializing after download of and selecting themes.
Fixes display startup issues when the run full screen windowed setting is set.

The entire USA NetFlix library is now available via the GameEx front end up, with database integration and support for gamepads and remote control in the external player.

This is a release to enhance GameEx when used over a network with assets and files on NAS boxes or servers.
GameEx will now automaticially reconnect mapped drives when accessed. This is a worthwhile enhancment as many applications cannot work with UNC paths and .net will not normally detect and reconnect the drive.
Greatly improved performance via caching and code optimisations when using the scan sub folders settings. This improves performance in lots of areas of GameEx when this setting is used and even when not used.

Payment processing for GameEx registrations has been switched to Google and the currency changed to my native British pounds. Currently only lifetime licenses are available but the price has been reduced by a significant 9 dollars. The cost for an unlimited lifetime license is now 20 british pounds which is approximatly 30 dollars as opposed to previously $39. The tourist exchange rate is around 1.5 dollars to the pound at the moment.

There is now a seperate games list for MAME CHD games. A list update is required to show them.
It seems MAME now prompts for exit and GameEx was not closing the process if it detected the escape key. This now happens.

In another fine contribution to the community EmuMovies has upped the daily cap for other image types to 1GB from 256MB (snaps and titles already had no limit) for free accounts.. Therefore this release of GameEx enhances the automatic download feature to also download boxes, carts, marquees and cabs for users using free accounts with EmuMovies. Thank you EmuMovies. Enjoy!

This release has an option in the installer to install a GameEx plugin for XBMC. The addon will allow you to launch GameEx from the XBMC programs module. This version also cleanly returns and sets focus to XBMC. Ensure XBMC is running windowed when fullscreen. This is the default.
Several minor fixes in this release including exported MAME games in windows media center working properly.
New version of Adultery's Game Info plugin including multi monitor and theme support.

MP3, OGG, and AIF audio files are now supported for theme sound files.
The database engine has been moved from MS Access to SQLite. There are new emulator databases available in the new format and game data and movie databases will be upgraded to SQLite on first run of this version. Access .mdb files are still backwards compatible for game databases.
Automatic download of artwork and videos via emumovies. If GameEx can login it will automatically download. Snaps, Titles, Marquees, Cabinets, Boxes and Carts along with MP4 videos. For free EmuMovies users screenshots will be downloaded and EmuMovies has generously allowed snaps to only count towards a quarter of the daily usage limit.
For registered users experimental support for running on Linux and Mac under Wine. In addition an experimental Mac OS X package is available on the download page. It is experimental and features have been removed. GameEx and the install package will detect if running under wine and act accordingly. Wine - Mono is required and it will also run under the official .net framework 2 SP 1. The Mac package runs out of the box. There are no prior requirements. Just unzip and launch. It has Wine and Wine-Mono built in.It is hoped eventually a native version will be released running under MONO only.
Audio tag reading has beem improved.

GameEx 12.62 released.

This release brings a new video engine capable of better running of HD content and supporting subtitles again.
MP4 video files now play out of the box on windows 7.
All available themes online can now be downloaded and installed within GameEx itself.
GameEx will now automatically load any fonts used for a theme without them needed to be registered with Windows.
This release contains various updates to better handle rendering of the display and improved theme handling.
Various other fixes and improvements.
Most of the video code is credited to Ben Baker. Who's help again is invaluable.
The install package has been updated so it checks for installed components better and will not prompt to download or install again. This also greatly improves the speed of setup for existing installs.

Fixes a few issues where incorrect box art and album art would display.
New setting to sync display resolution to DVD and videos. If set and supported by your system GameEx will change resolution to match the video. This allows external receivers/processers and displays to upscale the picture instead of Windows. This allows 480p and 576p to be displayed at native res and refresh rate with the refresh setting added a couple of versions ago. It also allows 1080p content to displayed at that resolution if GameEx is running at a lower resolution.
When GameEx is set to run at a specific resolution DVDs and any use of the web browser will now also run at that resolution.
Fixes issues where folder icon in list was only displaying if MAME ICONs where enabled.
For registered users when browsing video folders GameEx will detect a DVD folder structure and allow playback.
GameEx can now also be used as a standalone video and DVD player if opening with a supported file including DVD and Blu Ray ISOs. If used in this manner GameEx will also always act as a registered version.
